The Novel After Dawn
Savour poetic prose in this novel about adolescent love, breakdown and trauma set in London and Scotland, narrated with empathy and occasional humour. Is the first cut the deepest?
A young man called Jim goes to Scotland to escape from an unhappy past. There, he meets Pauline, and the couple fall in love. Against the background of the Scottish Highlands and Islands, their love plays out but unforeseen events complicate matters and the young age of the central character hinders him from creating a future and instead leads him to recreating the past he wished to escape from. “After Dawn” is a novel for everyone but especially for adolescents and vulnerable people everywhere. Its style is literary without being intrusive.
